Wow. This talk about interstellar space travel for humans didn’t even address the cosmic radiation problem for humans on a multiyear journey in space. Adding cosmic radiation protection would add tremendous weight to the starship, still a large amount of cosmic radiation would still get through. People would die of radiation poisoning after a couple of years. It also did not address molecules encountered in interstellar space when traveling at 10% to 20% the speed of light. Space is not a perfect vacuum. And then they did not address the amount of food that would be required to be grown to support the astronauts and the amount of space needed for those plants. And then they did not discuss the phycological problems of living in a confined spaceship for years without anyone else to talk to except for the people on the ship which cannot be that many because of the weight problem. What about electronics that start to fail after a few years without the ability for part delivery or repair expertise. And most of these problems are present with a trip to Mars as well.

The scientist looks like a grown up Will Robinson. Try as she might, May was unable to get Neil to break his persona except for one word of jive. Too funny.

What about prestaging food, water and materials at different way points in space all the way to Alpha Centauri?

It’s taken Voyager 50 years to reach the helio pause. It’ll take 75,000 years to reach the nearest star.
