AI is reshaping the music industry, and Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and producer Imogen Heap breaks down what this moment really means for creators. She joins host Kristin Robinson to unpack how she’s blended technology with artistry for two decades, the rise of generative AI and why it’s becoming harder to tell where human creativity ends and machine production begins. Heap explains the urgent need for better metadata, identity layers and contributor search tools, and what it will take to set the right standards before AI becomes fully embedded in the music industry. She discusses the possibility of labels signing AI artists, the fears and misconceptions surrounding AI-generated work and why she believes art still matters if it resonates, no matter how it’s made. Heap also reflects on building her career independently, the flaws in traditional major label deals, and the innovations behind her Mi.Mu gloves as she envisions the future of human-driven music in an AI-powered era.

The Billboard Corporation of America should be completely ignored and boycotted since they are putting AI “musicians” like Xania Monet and now apparently Imogen freaking Heap on their “charts”! They’re a joke!
I predict AI music will be a ‘do-it-yourself’ subscription model. I hate anyone elses AI music! Mine is fire tho lol
I don’t know if there are any other Heapsters responding on this channel, but here’s a long “Hellooo” to you.
How does everyone feel about Immi’s current “Falcon Phase” – including her collab with Patti Gonia for “Have You Considered?” . I’m hoping she can make a few more collab statements about the current state of lunacy in the world.
I remember those COVID days spent with her “in the Listening Chair” talking about Trump’s first lunacy phase through her “Last Night Of An Empire” Tracking and Mastering. The world seemed to be opening up, rather than the current collapse (for about the last year). Cheers and much love to you all wherever you are in the world! – Billsy

Slippery Slopes inform the Tropes! Yargh! Why should a Poet be compelled to write under the pseudonym of being a full-blown Music Artist? Because the entire Media Industry is in Retrograde Inversion? 🤬
“if it makes you feel something, does it matter”? YES, it matters more in fact. what Imogen fails to realize is that it isn’t just about whether you did the work, it’s about embracing this technology at all. it’s about propping up an industry of fascist tech oligarchs who are convincing people not to use their own mind, exploiting them, robbing them, and invading their privacy. even if she’s just training it on herself, it doesn’t erase the message. ” it’s here, it isn’t going away, let’s embrace it” is a sentiment of privilege. the rest of us need radical change, radical thought, radical empathy, and you wanna “hAvE a cOnVeRsAtiOn”. the embrace of AI isn’t just about the music, art, text, etc. it absolutely is the message it sends. the message that while the working class is being exploited and manipulated by the very people pioneering this tech, you wanna throw in your privileged and out of touch opinion of “does it really matter”
Why doesn’t this video have more views and likes? Imogene is awesome! An embodiment of intelligence, creativity, artistry, and craft. I’m 100% with her!
