Join National Geographic to explore Egypt, with the ‘World’s Greatest Explorer’, Sir Ranulph Fiennes and his cousin, actor Joseph Fiennes, star of Shakespeare in Love, The Handmaid’s Tale, and recently in Young Sherlock. On the second leg of their journey, the explorers spend a night inside the only surviving Wonder of the Ancient world – the Great Pyramid of Giza. They also traverse the wild Eastern Desert to the Red Sea.

The archaeological mysteries of the Pyramids all over the world are explained in these lyrics.
    “Look at progress
    Then count the cost
    We’ll spoil the seas
    With the rivers we’ve lost

Ask the mirror on the wall
Who’s the biggest fool of all?
    Bet you feel small
    It happens to us all…”

The fact that they don’t know where Oman and Yemen are is just hilarious to the World’s Greatest Explorer 43:27

Let’s not pretend like any of his expeditions would have been possible without his already standing privilege and notoriety and most importantly his namesake… I’m more interested in the guy who set out in the 80s and is currently still walking the globe… I wouldn’t call “Ran” that spectacular. Privileged yes.

And that’s what makes things like this bittersweet… Yeah it’s cool to see all this stuff… But it’s sad to know that it’s a certain demographic of privilege along with all their friends and family that gets to do whatever they please. While us regular folk can only ever dream of it… Exploration and archaeology has always been gate kept by the rich and elite. In every form. Throughout all history.

Just so happened to be drinking tea when the “unexpected” arrival of a 5 hour expedition at midnight shows up… Boy, sure glad we’re just HAPPEN to be well rested. 😂
