Coconut oil is not good for your face, it is too heavy and clogging. I know that there was a huge fad about it for a while, but it is not as great as they make it sound. Ask a good dermatologist, they will tell you.

Oh wow, it is “comedogenic” meaning it clogs pores. Very interesting, I may have heard of that before but it didn’t sink in I guess. I feel like coconut oil absorbs into my skin pretty quickly and doesn’t leave an offputting sheen. That said, I don’t have issues with coconut oil and I like the antimicrobial advantage it has on my skin. A non-comedogenic that I do use often/daily on my face is jojoba oil because it mimics the skin’s natural sebum.

celebrities are human beings after all, they can be just as misinformed as anyone else. sometimes even the doctors themselves aren’t up to date with the latest science.

as someone who is both fond of Jessica Chastain but also has a kneejerk reaction to “appeal to nature fallacy” this video hurts.

As a licensed esthetician I have learned that “non-comedogenic” in itself is a fallacy. Skin cells themselves can clog pores, anything you put on your skin has the potential to clog your pores because it all depends on how your skin handles absorption and cell turnover. Coconut oil can be absolutely fantastic for one person, but clog up another person’s pores. Castor oil is considered non-comedogenic but if you have tight pores and slower cell turnover it will indeed clog your pores. So it is important to pay very close attention to your own skin and its “metabolism”, as I like to call it. Natural products are usually always your best bet, and often less is more when it comes to ingredients. Coconut oil worked well for her, and has worked well for others. Almost always a custom blend of oils will be what you need.
