We are in a new day and age. More and more families are choosing to celebrate the lives of the people they love instead of only focusing on the pain of losing them. If Nolan told the people closest to him that he wanted his life celebrated, then why wouldn’t his own mother honor her son’s wishes?
Some of y’all act like the only “acceptable” way to grieve is for a mother to cry every second of every day, never smile again, and lose the will to live. Is that really what you expect? Is that what would make her grief believable to you?
The strongest people are often carrying the heaviest pain. Just because she isn’t putting her grief on display for the world doesn’t mean her heart isn’t shattered every single day.
Stop policing how people mourn. Stop acting like you get to decide what grief should look like. None of us knows what that mother goes through the moment the cameras are off, the guests leave, and she’s alone with the reality that her son is gone forever.
What has this world come to when people criticize a mother for honoring her son’s wishes instead of showing her compassion?
