The 4th series is an absolute heavyweight and at the top end of A at least as far as I’m concerned, arguably S. Great stories with iconic villains but what a job by Troughton; he comes in as the first new doctor 3 stories in – that can’t have been easy – and absolutely nails it, defining the role and remaining one of the most influential doctor types to this day.
Same goes for S5 but but at least you came to your senses with this one, and redressed this to some extent.
These are very close to my own rankings. The only ones I would change are to move seasons 4 and 22 both up to A tier and seasons 1 and 2 to S tier.
Glad to see all the Pertwee seasons doing well – my favourite and the most consistent run, along with Tom Baker’s first half (literally, post ‘The Sunmakers’ – story 21/42 – the quality drops dramatically)
Tops for me:
1. Season 13
2. Season 7
3. Season 14
4. Season 8
5. Season 9
6. Season 12
These are the only seasons that are consistently good all the way through imo (maybe a wobble at the end of season 9😅)
