Bill Rasmussen, 93, who founded ESPN in 1978 with his son Scott while stuck in traffic, died from Parkinson’s disease. ESPN launched on Sept. 7, 1979, in 1.4 million homes with the first SportsCenter. Rasmussen was later removed by investors but remained a visionary. ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro called him “a remarkable man.”
