Eminem spent almost the entirety of his initial albums glamourizing spousal abuse, torture and spousal murder.
Now his daughters are getting married and becoming spouses I wonder how he genuinely feels. What gnaws at him at night? What questions nag him about the marital future if his daughters?
Does he hope these young women are marrying men who have been inspired by his music, men who believe or nurture the idea that the resolution to marital disputes is killing your wife and disposing of her body in the presence of your child?
This disturbing fascination was the essence of songs like ’97 Bonnie and Clyde,’ among others, and it played a significant role in Eminem’s rise to fame.
I harbor no ill will towards Hailie or Alaina, but it’s important to acknowledge the savage and barbaric nature of Eminem’s music. It becomes an intriguing thought experiment to contemplate how he would react if Alaina’s husband or Hailie’s fiancé were to release a project—a movie, a novel or a play—featuring a protagonist who tortures and kills his wife, bearing the name of Eminem’s daughter.
Would Eminem find this entertaining or repulsive? Would he pay to watch such a play or would he finance such a project?
I believe the answer to these questions would depict how Eminem really feels about his music when it is stripped of the monetary gains, fame and accolades.
Glamorizing? What on earth are you talking about…Because it’s music it should be somehow taken more seriously than film? Would you hold all directors accountable for the themes they portray in movies, how matter how extreme?
@RNCSBLNCS No, I would not hold ALL directors accountable for their movie themes like I would not hold ALL rappers responsible for their rap imagery.
However, we all bear a level of moral accountability for what we craft and put out for the world to consume.
Lines of morality and decency exist and shutting your eyes to them does not obliterate them from existence.
In directing a movie, I would like to believe that in the sane parts of society, someone yelling cut on the set of an x-rated movie would be perceived as putting out filthy, objectionable material; someone directing a snuff film while torturing animals is not exactly offering a public service and should be arrested for animal cruelty.
While someone directing a family-oriented holiday movie would broadly be seen as putting out decent material. It is a bit fallacious to purposefully conflate the directors by saying ALL as if gradations and nuances do not exist or cannot be perceived.
It is exactly the same with Eminem and the content of his rap. We cannot assume that ALL rap is the same then purposefully commingle: Chuck D_Public Enemy with Eminem_D12 with Cardi B_Meg the Stallion!
@patternsamazingbud its not that deep. Like you said its entertainment and its meant to not be taken seriously. And people change. How he felt and expressed himself then doesnt mean he will do the same now. People grow. But its no different than action movies , book or any other type if media. Why are we allowed to watch these things and not hear them. Maybe he experienced these thing himself and this his way of acknowledging what happened and coping with it. You have no idea. And neither do i. But you can assume someones a horrible person simply because their art is different
