Elina Svitolina is playing excellent tennis and is currently in superb form. By defeating Rybakina, Świątek, and Gauff one after another she has demonstrated that she belongs to the absolute elite of the WTA Tour. On the world’s courts, Elina fights just as proud Ukraine fights on the front lines. She reminds me of a Zaporozhian Cossack who even when scorched by fire would lift his head high with pride, dying but unbroken in spirit. In Elina’s screams on the court, there is no triumphalism rather they are screams of labor and struggle. Sincere congratulations to Elina on her victory in Rome. Bravo!
