That is a ridiculous statement. SKODA sold 180,000 units of Enyaq and Elroq in Europe in 2025. They are part of the VW Group that had the biggest EV led sales boom.

The E.U can celebrate lower emissions on the Continent while ignoring the effects of toxic mining that are felt by locals near the mines where the minerals come from, it’s having a ecological catastrophic effect in these areas and E.U citizens are ignoring it deliberately or not doesn’t make it right.
Electric cars need up to 8 times the amount of raw minerals vs EV.
This mixes a few real points with some misleading framing.
EVs do use more minerals upfront (about 6x according to the IEA), but petrol cars require continuous oil extraction, refining, and transport for their entire lifetime — which adds up to far more total resource use.
Mining has environmental impacts, but that’s true for fossil fuels as well (often worse), and EV batteries are increasingly recyclable.
Also, the EU isn’t ignoring this — they’ve introduced regulations like the Critical Raw Materials Act to improve sourcing and reduce environmental damage.
So it’s not a simple “EVs are worse” situation — lifecycle impact matters.
Next time spent some time to fact check and learn about the topic in less shallow manner, or rely less on Daily Mail brainrot.
Policy is everything. From another planet: In March, 22 bought petrol cars. 22% ? 22,000? No, 22 individuals. This is Norway, where EV sales are so close to 100% that decimals hardly matter. Diesel cars, all heavy offroaders, made up 0,71%. You could still buy a Mazda MX-5 or a BMW 320i, but most manufacturers have given up offering petrol at all.
