Classic Doctor Who actors Sylvester McCoy, Sophie Aldred, Frazer Hines, Nicola Bryant, and Carole Ann Ford gave a panel at Awesome Con 2026 to talk about the show, share their experiences, and answer fan questions.
Sylvester McCoy portrayed the 7th Doctor in the show from 1987 to 1989 and again in Doctor Who: The Movie in 1986. He has portrayed the Doctor in video games, audio dramas, and much more since, and played a fictional version of himself in The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot. He is also known for The Hobbit trilogy, as well as Casualty, Hollyoaks, Jackanory, Eureka (1982), For the Love of Albert, Roberts Robots, P.R.O.B.E., Ghostlands, and more.

She is also known for her voice acting in shows such as Tree Fu Tom, Bob the Builder, Peter Rabbit, and many more. In addition, she has reprised her character in the Big Finish audio dramas and in the 13th Doctor Power of the Doctor special.
Frazer Hines portrayed Jamie McCrimmon with Patrick Troughton’s second Doctor in 116 episodes of Doctor Who. He is also known for roles in Emergency-Ward 10, Smugglers’ Cove, Smuggler’s Bay, Emmerdale Farm, Out of Sight, and an appearance on The Catherine Tate Show. He also provides voice work for Big Finish.
Nicola Bryant was Peri on Doctor Who, but is also known for Gentrification, My Family, Doctors, Holby City, Blackadder’s Christmas Carol, Star Trek Continues, and as host of In Isolation.

She is also known for The Day of the Triffids, An Adventure in Space and Time, Soul’s Ark, Dial M for Murder, and more. This was wonderful. Seeing all of these people that played characters I remember so fondly. Thank you so very much for posting this.
An interesting fact that I worked out at the time and have just re-verified to make sure: Tom Baker was the longest serving Doctor in the continuous role. However, from his first appearance until his regeneration he was the Doctor for 6 years and 3 months. Sylvester McCoy played the Doctor for only a couple of years, but his Doctor didn’t die when the show was cancelled. He didn’t regenerate for another 6 years and 6 months when Paul McGann took over in the 1996 Doctor Who TV movie. So Sylvester McCoy actually had the longest run as Doctor Who on TV. This of course excludes post regeneration appearances in cameos, flashbacks and special editions when several Doctors appear in the same timeline. Also the Curator is actually a future Doctor that just adopts the Fourth Doctor’s face. So that wouldn’t be a continuation of Baker’s Doctor. It would just be Baker returning as the face of another Doctor.
Patrick Troughton was a great doctor.
McCoy was shafted as he was really coming into the role when it was cancelled.
He was also shafted with the US movie.
Well said Nicola about the female companion not needing to be a love interest or sexual partner for the Dr. I know it worked for Billie Piper and David Tennent but it became the norm – Catherine Tate and Karen Gillan to a degree excepted.
……and Jenna Coleman and Pearl Mackie.
