Opening statements started in Alaska in the murder trial of U.S. Army soldier Zarrius Hildabrand, who prosecutors say killed his wife of less than a year, Saria Barney, before hiding her body inside a storm drain and later joining search efforts to find her. Investigators allege Hildabrand left behind a trail of evidence, including suspiciously timed text messages sent after Barney’s death, multiple trips to stores to purchase potential cleanup supplies, and signs of a bloody struggle.
