I’ve never had COVID. I’m also vaccinated. I know I’ve never had it because I take two COVID tests on separate days if I ever get a cold. 💪
I know America has never had a perfect history, but I was feeling SO good about the direction we were heading by the end of Obama’s term. I felt we had a pretty good upward trajectory.
But it was clearly too much for those in our country who hold onto ideas that are a terrible relic of our past. It was never enough for them to stay stuck in their bad ideas, they just HAD to pull us all down with them.
This has always been the case in our country, but THIS time they were so threatened by our progress, they felt there was no room left for their bad ideas (and there isn’t). So because they know they couldn’t win us over with their bad ideas, they had to deceive us about what their ideas actually were, meanwhile they decided it was time to strip away all our freedoms in hopes of securing that their bad ideas were all safe here.
But this is backfiring. In their attempts to burn it all to the ground, they woke a lot of people up from complacency meanwhile they cleared out many of the cobwebs of bureaucracy. We are going to get universal healthcare, we are going to get livable wages, we are going to finally be that beacon of hope that we always claimed we were.
It might seem naive or even impossible living in this moment we are in, but in this moment we have two options: to fold in on ourselves and give up to fascism or we are going to push back and start implementing the social changes we all deserve. And given our fighting spirit in the face of oppression rooted in conservative ideas, I know that the next chapter in America’s story is going to be exciting. We can only sit back and watch the bad guys win for so long. History has also shown us that there will always be people that will celebrate their own oppression, fear has always been an effective tool for control. But anger has been shown to be more effective in implementing meaningful change.
Our 250th anniversary could’ve been a time to celebrate, yet it was sad and embarrassing. The bobo state of the reflecting pool and the bobo attendance of the “state fair” won’t be remembered as much as what happened after.
