Ted Turner, the media maverick and philanthropist who founded CNN, a pioneering 24-hour network that revolutionized television news, died peacefully Wednesday, surrounded by his family, according to a news release from Turner Enterprises. He was 87.
The Ohio-born Atlanta businessman, nicknamed “The Mouth of the South” for his outspoken nature, built a media empire that encompassed cable’s first superstation and popular channels for movies and cartoons, plus professional sports teams like the Atlanta Braves.

The last interview I, personally, saw with Mr. Turner was on Turner Classic Movies (TCM). It was obvious that Lewy Body Dementia had taken its toll. Add to that, CNN has become such a left-wing extremist media cable outlet, any positive value or impact Mr. Turner may have had on his entrepreneurial endeavors become a hostile memory since the days of AOL. It was reported that he had also suffered from being Bi-Polar. This may explain his entanglement with the largely disliked Jane Fonda, if one knows anything about this mental health issue. Like Howard Hughes, Mr. Turner now seems just eccentric, and too controversial because of…CNN and its current anchors. None of the cable news outlets are watchable for any length of time, so are not regarded as reliable news sources or entertainment.
