The beauty of BTS: Even though I liked others songs from Arirang fast and immediately, this one was more of a slow burn. As lyrics and translations came out I choked upon reading Namjoons part. It makes me feel understood and feels like a reflection of my mind. To my understanding he is referring to his insomnia that he had during the military service. The bed being a place where he is supposed to rest and put his mind at ease. But instead his thoughts wander and wander. He cannot find rest, even though he needs it so much to be back on his feet the next day. Days must have felt endless. The same patterns repeating over and over. Chronos as he eyplained it in the documentary. He could only hope for a future with kairos (the album production time in LA after military service) or look back on all the memories where he experienced kairos – deep connections with the members during different and perhaps also difficult times. Will the future bring luck or another period of pain? The pain must have shifted from being underdogs to being on top but still not acknowledged, still being seen as Aliens to the music industry. People might even hate them more nowadays as they cant understand their success. Namjoon, being very intelligent, is seeing all of this. He must have had never nding thoughts about it, that kept him awake at night.

    또 생각에 생각에 생각에 생각
I think and think and think and think

    생각하지 말잔 생각을 해 난
I think about how I shouldn’t be thinking

Being Army for more than 10 years now also has made me see all of this. I also feel their pain and I think it has become part of me too. As well as all the happy moments and the proudness of our long walk together. My personal situation is different from Namjoon, but still his lyrics are written so beautifully that I can apply to my personal situation. Often times I feel like my life goes around in circles. I thought about getting off of this ride called “life”. Countless times. And countless times BTS has brought me back. Looking back I have spent so much time in bed. At night, but even during the day. When I see friends going out on the weekends, I am so exhausted from the week that I stay in bed for two days straight. I see life passing by but I am not partaking. It really does appear that my bed is my coffin. I am confining myself and keeping myself from experiencing life. Maybe I am the only one to blame… Currently I am looking forward to seeing BTS in Munich. Finally an experience outside my coffin. I will try to smile until the end 🙂

    웃어줘 끝까지.
