  1. The PGA should not have a monopoly on the game. 54 did have an influence on them. Golfers can go play wherever they want to play. I didn’t like it when I tuned into a PGA tournament and some of the in theory top players were not in it. Not sure why there has to be a penalty to get back in. PGA has rules you abide them you play. But you cannot say this didn’t make the PGA stop and rethink some things. Follow the money…Arnold did when he marketed himself… and he did that very well. PGA surely did get him paid…

  2. It will be genuinely interesting to see what happens to the LIV players – sure, most of the focus will be on DeChambeau, Smith, Rahm and Hatton, but while hopefully not disrespecting their collective contributions to golf, Mickelson, Westwood, Garcia, Poulter, Johnson are in the twilight of their careers and unlikely to do penance on say the Korn Ferry Tour. As for the rest, I love watching the likes of Detry, McKibbin, Pieters, Ballester, Puig, Herbert, Smylie and co., yet they’re not exactly crowd pullers that the PGA will be falling over itself to get back on the tour.

  3. The idea that LIV golf was supposed to launder the Saudi’s reputation is absurd. Brandel likes pushing crazy ideas. They got hoodwinked by Norman into believing that a team golf concept using a few premier players and players past their prime would be interesting. It wasn’t. Just like the WNBA is a concept that can exist without subsidies. It can’t, but the overhead is lower and there are enough woke millionaires happy to burn millions of dollars on a bad idea.

  4. Remember when the infantile PGA tour took away the doral open because of Trump? But, alas…

  5. I am no fan of LIV golf. The guys who went there did so only for the money, despite the spin some of them tried to put on it. I loved the hypocrisy of guys like Dechambeau and Rahm stating not once but more times in the past that they wanted the legacy of being champions on the PGA tour and then when staring down Saudi money, they went for that instead. I do appreciate the few guys who stated openly that the money was too good to ignore. I think Harold Varner was one of those guys. At least they were honest. Overall, these guys wanted their cake and to be able to eat it too. Good riddance to LIV.
As far as Greg Norman is concerned, yes Greg Norman only cares about Greg Norman.

Having said all that, LIV existing did change things for the better for players on the PGA tour so I guess some good did come of it for the PGA tour.

  6. Phil Mickelson’s future in golf is going to be giving strokes to really good club players in big money games in Las Vegas, or wherever.

  7. Koepka called players who left early in the LIV thing “sellouts.” A couple months later he jumps to LIV citing family reasons and a desire for a different schedule. Then he decides he wants to return to the PGA tour using the exact same reasons for leaving in the first place. His net worth was between 20 and 30 million before he jumped to LIV and had several lucrative endorsement deals with Nike and Rolex to supplement his meager wage. I guess that’s not enough for Brooks.
