@owensomers8572 I don’t know, loads. The usual thing in a civil war. They usually kill as many of the other side as they can. It was the British (Mi6, and a bunch of fascist newspaper oligarchs – The Express – conspired with Franco’s thugs) who set up and physically enabled Franco to launch his coup d’etat and the war against the democratically elected government of the third Republic. Why do you ask?

Most historians and analysts regard the Spanish Civil War as a “dress rehearsal” for World War II, as almost every single ideology was represented by a myriad of groupings and political parties on both sides, Falangists and Communists were not as large as other Nationalist or Republican groups. “Christians” were present on both sides, the Church took the side of the Fascists – the military under Franco – and of course their reputation for protecting murderers travelled far and wide and Churches were burnt down. Republicans included liberals and of course the highly repressive conservatism of the oppressive church did not appeal to freedom loving people. Republicans shot back at the Nationalists some of whom were obviously Catholics, and vice versa.
The best book in English on the Spanish Civil War is the Irishman Gerald Brenan’s ‘The Spanish Labyrinth’ a title which clearly suggests the highly complex array of forces and social webs at play in the lead up and outcome to that conflict. Sinead O’Conner would have understood exactly why the church enraged the Republicans. People today come out in support of the Epstein class, like the simpleton above.
