The Brig was meant to die in the original version of this serial, but the powers that be got cold feet and had the Brig survive instead the destroyer was meant to kill the Brig.

I love the non-linear storytelling here with the Doctor being Merlin and writing a letter to himself. Always a treat to have the Brigadier back. A true legend.
