Baauer Makes A New York Knicks Inspired Jersey Club Track From Scratch

In the latest episode of our Beat From Scratch series, we join Baauer at W1 Curates Studios London to learn the secrets behind his productions.

The double platinum American producer has been making music since the age of 13. While arguably best known for his 2012 viral hit, ‘Harlem Shake’, the DJ, producer and sample archaeologist has a long track record of electronic music innovations under his belt.

Earlier this year, he released ‘U’, his first album in six years, via storied label LuckyMe. A demonstration of his high-octane style, the 16-track album showcased a mix of Ibiza-inspired house, disco, bloghouse and more, all delivered with the singular Baauer signature.

For his contribution to the Beat From Scratch series, we join him in the studio as he shows us how he approaches making a track. Taking inspiration from New York Knick’s recent NBA Championship win, Baauer uses a TikTok video as the central sample to a bass-heavy trap meets Jersey Club track.

He also lifts the lid on the techniques he’s used to develop his signature sound – from sampling, to plug-ins and beyond.

Beat from Scratch offers a unique insight into an artist’s creative process in the studio. Starting from a blank session, each artist builds a track from scratch in their own style, exploring everything from drum and synth programming to mixing, arrangement and more.
