You not hungry enough Andrew Zimmerman did you forget that survival video?
I had MREs and while better than k-rats, c-rats or MCIs.. they are still gnarly. You eat because you are hungry and you need the calories (the average mre has 1200 to 1800 calories in order to sustain an 18 yr old male in combat scenarios.. so if you are just training, older or female.. you do NOT want to eat all of it or by the time you come out of the field exercises you will be a few pounds heavier).. but i will say that you learn to make them taste better and there are books out there.. “cookbooks” if you will.. that give ideas on what to mix with what that make them a little better to eat. And the government.. or companies that produce them, are appreciated for adding the little things to help.. like tiny bottles of Tabasco, salt and pepper packets..
There are also flameless heaters that you can get that are activated by air. Dig a little hole, put the pouch in it and you put that stew in your metal canteen cup (because they have handles and you have gloves)… that would make that at least taste better. It will look like dog food no matter what but itll taste better.
