The criminal case against Alec Baldwin over the Oct. 2021 on-set shooting death of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins is over for the time being.
On Thursday, ABC News reported that the criminal charges first brought against Baldwin, 65, in January have been dropped, citing sources.

The prosecutors saw charging him as a way to further her career. They didn’t dp their due dillegence in making sure everything was on point. They’ve found that the gun was tampered with to where the trigger could go off on its own, text from the armorer wanting to use live rounds on set for this or another film and text from the prosecutor. All those things is why they dropped charges, for now anyway.

The following is from the FBI report: Accidental discharge testing determined that the firearm used in the shooting — a .45 Colt (.45 Long Colt) caliber F.lli Pietta single-action revolver — could not have fired without the trigger being pulled, the FBI report shows.

Ridiculous that Baldwin was ever charged at all. On a movie set, the armorer is wholly responsible for the firearms, firearm safety, and blank ammunition. That live ammo was on the set is the fault of the armorer. That a gun with live ammo was handed to the actor is the fault of the armorer. Actors are not firearm experts. To the actor, the firearm is a prop. Shame on the prosecuting attorney for wasting time not pursuing the actual criminal negligence suspect.
