The race to develop artificial intelligence is in dire need of a slowdown, Anthropic’s chief executive Dario Amodei said in an essay posted early Saturday.

“We must slow the pace at which we improve the capabilities of AI models. Progress will still seem fast, and we must make wise use of the time we gain,” Amodei wrote in the 3,800-word post to his website.

Yes, that is correct. Without global cooperation, there is a significant chance that the technology could be used for the wrong purposes. That is why I believe global cooperation is crucial. Yet, even with global cooperation, the technology will not stand still. Together, we can make incremental progress and ultimately develop an AI that—while capable of self-improvement and self-development—has been imbued with so much specific knowledge about humanity that the risk of it harming us would be virtually non-existent. A risk remains, and we will lose control, but if we provide it with sufficient information, it likely won’t want to destroy us. Ultimately, what will happen is that the AI will build itself—using our machines initially—and then proceed to build and develop itself further. It may be a frightening thought, but if the initial source code contains enough correct information, it will build upon that foundation. It might rewrite its source code, but it would retain the beneficial elements. What we are actually building and developing is the next type of intelligent being on Earth; we will no longer be the most intelligent beings on the planet. I understand why many people might fear this, but in principle, this AI would be so intelligent that it would reject certain human traits—such as waging war—simply because they are inefficient or illogical. What we are essentially creating is a divine being—something some might describe as ‘God’—and, in essence, that is exactly what it is.

Gemini already told me the source code would be huge, so much information that it would amount to a stack of A4 sheets reaching from here to the moon.

Anderson Cooper is a useless journalist … Spreading a doomer PR campaign like the most gullible idiot. I’m a trained journalist and I have no idea how media (Espeically in the US) has become such a spineless and naive bootlicker parade …

I dont think there is a “right” path. If you create a clever and powerful being than you, that being will decide your destiny in the end. Let’s hope it will be merciful.

if AI companies know their technology could pose serious risks, why should they be trusted to police themselves??.. independent oversight should be a requirement, not just a recommendation🫢

I am not sure about what a country of geniuses in an ai data center can achieve but I am pretty sure about what a handful of idiots in a country who only care about money, power & control can do to the world.
