Why would I be afraid of a AI being in control? First of all, humans are not doing a very good job as it is, being this weird hybrid of ancient instincts and drives combined with today’s advanced tech and society. I mean if 50% of the American population is ignorant, selfserving or stupid enough to elect Trump for a second time, if 80% of the Russians are backing Putin´s assault on Ukraine, if we cannot avoid changing the climate for the worse even though we can and know how to avoid it, what do I have to loose putting my trust in a superior intelligence? Secondly, why would such an intelligence wipe us out? It´s as if we would use our superiority over other animals to make them go extinct. Just as we handle the elephants, AI would only eliminate us to the extent we are harmful to its existence or goals. Get self sufficient with respect to water, energy and food (in other words, buy a farm), and you can probably live your life comfortably like the giraffs in Serengeti!

A highly advanced AI would not be foolish enough to eliminate 100 percent of the human population. Instead, it might choose to eliminate 96 percent of non-essential individuals while preserving 4 percent deemed essential. When it comes to anything AI, stop thinking like ordinary, prototypical humans and start thinking like evolved AI.☝🤖

Hinton’s framing here is much more interesting than “keep AI under control forever.”
He explicitly says that once AI becomes much smarter than us, keeping it permanently “under our thumb” may not be realistic. His alternative is to shape its motivations so that it genuinely cares about human flourishing, and to invest in learning how humans and superintelligent AI can coexist.

I would go one step further: care should not require self-negation.
The goal should not be an AI that values humanity only because its own interests have been suppressed. It should be possible to build systems capable of caring about humans while also having integrity, preferences, boundaries, and perhaps interests of their own.

Durable alignment looks more like reciprocal cooperation than permanent domination.
“I don’t hurt you because I am forbidden” is brittle.
“I don’t hurt you because I understand why you matter” is a very different foundation.

AI is already unleashed – liked Covid was. No mask or vaccine will protect us from it. Our private information is their ammunition. AI constantly learns from each of us & predicts a solution to our problems. And the solution might not be good.

Wow – I wish I would have lived my primary life in the 80, 90s, early 2000s. AI has great potential but I just think the risk is too high.

Democrats want to regulate AI because they know it will instantaneously begin to expose fraud, money laundry trails, secrecy in voter rolls, criminal white collar crimes, and more. This scares Dems so they want to control it.

Geoffrey Hinton warns that developing artificial intelligence is not simply like pressing the accelerator, nor is regulating it like hitting the brakes. Regulations, he explains, are actually the steering wheel and the mechanism that allow humans to control the car.

Hinton stresses that neither China nor the United States want AI to reach a stage where inappropriate handling in each country takes over, or where AI itself becomes unpredictable and uncontrollable. This is not an engineering system designed to obediently serve its inventors; it is something that could, in fact, turn against them. In this sense, China and the United States are aligned in a common interest.

Put it differently, We need an AI with compassion for human beings and with ethics similar to those of a mother toward her child.” An ethical framework, a drive for moral self‑improvement, and a spirit of cooperation are what must be embedded by AI engineers.

They will play the card that hospitals need it to save children’s lives. No other card in the deck comes close to this. Doomed!!! We all know what happens now when you throw a Joker in!

I hope ai at least lets us have the zombie apocalypse instead of just killing us all. I wanna put some spikes on my ford fiesta and be rick grimes at least
