Why are so many cops so bad at interviews? Most cops are taught this same technique, ask why they killed the victim, & if they don’t admit it, they switch to “but people will see you as a terrible person who murdered to be terrible.” Its a very old technique & while it may work in some cases, I’ve rarely seen it work in hundreds of cases. You would think that he might at least try to switch to pretending to be supportive, & lay out the case the way it will be laid out in court, & then ask him what he thought most people would assume when presented with that evidence, & ask what sort of argument would he think might prevent the jury from assuming he did it?

Another typical method when the accused refuses to admit to it, is get them to lie in detail, by creating a timeline. When did he leave his house, which roads did he take, will his car have been recording that, what time did he arrive, etc.
