President Donald Trump, in his first address to the nation on the Iran war, told Americans the war is “nearing completion,” and projected another two or three weeks of involvement. “We’ve done all of it. Their Navy is gone. Their Air Force is gone. Their missiles are just about used up or beaten. Taken together, these actions will cripple Iran military, crush their ability to support terrorist proxies and deny them the ability to build a nuclear bomb. Our armed forces have been extraordinary,” Trump said.
Trump also used the opening moments of the speech to criticize his predecessors, claiming that US presidents who came before him should have “handled” the Iranian regime before he took office. “We don’t have to be there. We don’t need their oil. We don’t need anything they have, but we’re there to help our allies.”

A country cannot claimed that they were threatened by another sovereign country to justify preemptive strike. Preemptive strike is illegal and it is a war crime. Otherwise, any country can say it to justify attacking another country. So any justification for preemptive strike is unacceptable and it is crime. These were European cities that were effectively annihilated or suffered catastrophic destruction (over 70–90% destruction of city centers) due to intense Allied agreed upon annihilation bombing in WWII. Key examples include Dresden (firestormed Feb 1945), Warsaw (90% destroyed by 1945), Hamburg (Operation Gomorrah 1943), Rotterdam (1940), Berlin, Würzburg (75%+ destroyed), Coventry 75% + destroyed), Tokyo (26% + destroyed), Hiroshima (70% + destroyed), Nagasaki (40% + destroyed). Wars are unfortunate, all wars are crimes. Question is which among the warring state commits the least crimes and are more benevolent and moralistic. You can’t dispute the results after this war was won.

There’s a reason WW2 vets never spoke about their experiences during the war, they did unspeakable acts to protect noncombatants for horrors that noncombatants could ever imagine.
