Todd has a point to a point. The music of the millenial generation is very “homogeneous”, echos technotronic vibes, uses auto-tune, and lacks any depth and emotion (unlike the music of the 60’s/70’s/80’s and 90’s.) Taylor Swift is a product of the millenial generation’s “POP” singers that can generate huge income by attracting teens, kids and others that may not appreciate the beautiful artistry and poetry in music. Take Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston, Ann Wilson, Pat Benatar, Frida /Agnetha from ABBA, Barbara Streisand. These ladies were blessed with God given vocals (some soprano, some mezzo-vibrato) that could pull on your heart-strings and make you cry. I have listened to Taylor’s songs (as well as Spears’, Beyonce’s, Katy Perry’s and others’) and you know, personally I do not feel any emotions nor do I feel the lyrics make much sense. In defense of Taylor Swift and the others I mentioned, we are now living in a very different era, with different tastes in everything including music. Today’s teens and young adults gravitate toward what is currently popular and sounds “fun” and “happy”, and that busines model sells lots of records. Not unlike a new novelty toy or gadget. I believe Taylor is a great business woman, that knows how to market herself and pull in large crowds at her shows (much like Madonna.) Lyrically and muscially, she can’t hold a candle to Ann Wilson, Whitney Houston, Frida/Agnetha ABBA, Pat Benatar, and other “very talented” ladies of 40-50 years ago. That is my 2 cents, and yes, music is very subjective.
Taylor Swift raises the bar for all artists! Music songwriting, video direction and so much more. She’s one of the most talented artists we have ever known ❤.
