The concentrated _anger_ Hartnell barely holds in here is kind of frightening. He was for many years supremely pissed off and bitter.
Nowadays, the Daleks are so engrained in pop culture, and so many kids grew up with the Daleks, actors have no trouble playing in front of them. Heck, some wants to be Exterminated by a Dalek.

I love Bill Hartnell, even with all his faults, he will always be the first Doctor.

This is… truly bizarre. So many Doctors, you see them outside of that role semi often. Especially newer ones, David Tennant has a large career outside of Doctor Who for example. But William Hartnell is… very outside the public eye as himself, he almost always is the Doctor. Even Tom Baker became just Tom Baker after a point, around the 2010s at least. I suppose due to the nature of the First Doctor Era, there was little coverage of how the show affected Hartnell as an actor?
