I think the reason Russians like these people are shocked, upset, and now saying what appears to be nonsense is because they knew the lie and chose to ignore reality. Now that reality is becoming apparent to the public, their narrative is falling apart.
For decades, we (meaning the Western world) have known without a doubt that the U.S.S.R. falsified documents, photographs, and public information to create a narrative of overwhelming technological superiority and advancement across many disciplines, both domestically and internationally.
Today, we also know that Russia simply changed its flag but, more or less, kept the same mentality regarding many issues. Russia is a free country only as long as you go along with Putin’s administration and its viewpoints. Combined with state controlled media and restrictions on internet access, mobile devices, and Telegram to suppress ordinary Russians from voicing negative opinions or organizing opposition to Putin and the war, this is not the behavior of a free country.
Killing political rivals is the hallmark of a dictatorship, not a democracy. We are seeing the narrative unravel with every drone strike, every cruise missile that hits its target, and every ship from the so called “shadow fleet” that is sunk. With Russians reportedly fighting each other over fuel, and Putin now carrying out a general mobilization, I think that within 18 months he will either be killed, replaced, or perhaps face an uprising from within the country.
However:
I think Putin is “prepared” to go all the way to stay in his position especially if he loses Crimea …chemical, biological and perhaps a very small limited nuclear strike are all possibilities . I do not think enough of the right people are considering this .
