Gilgo Beach Murders: Killer Speaks Before Pleading Guilty 0 (0)

Rex Heuermann, accused of killing at least seven women in the Gilgo Beach case, pleaded guilty Wednesday, ending a decade-long investigation. The plea came during a hearing originally scheduled as a routine pre-trial session for a trial set this fall. Heuermann admitted to all seven murders and an additional eighth killing that he had not yet been formally charged with. While on the witness stand Tuesday, Elizabeth “Ashley” Strand was shown several photos of her 7-year-old stepdaughter, Athena, from the day she vanished. One image depicted the child in the back of a vehicle; Ashley testified that she did not recognize the driver and had never given Athena permission to be in the truck. The girl was seen wearing the same clothing she had on when she disappeared in November 2022. The heartbreaking identification came shortly after Tanner Horner pleaded guilty to the 7-year-old’s murder.
