In Sudan’s civil war two bitter enemies, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are locked in a power struggle for control of Sudan’s future – and its wealth. In October 2025, fighters from the RSF filmed themselves killing civilians while conquering the Darfur city of al-Fashir – as their commanders stood by. A team of Reuters journalists visited nearby refugee camps in Chad, on the border with Sudan, shortly after.
