Lyrics:
Mama said, “It’s the grit that makes the pearl
Hold your head up high, you’re my girl”
But I found it really hard

Dada said, “It’s the songs that your gonna sing
That’ll change your world if you let them in”
I was stubborn from the start

But as they went to bed
And as the sun set

I put my headphones in
Start to spin
Wanted to leave this world behind
I turn Aretha up
Don’t give a fuck
If my neighbours hear me cry
When I’m dancing in the kitchen at night
When I’m dancing in my kitchen at night

People say only stars go to Hollywood
Get a life, get a job, get to motherhood
And that kinda broke my heart

Brother said, “You’re a tiger
That’s gonna roar
What you hiding the fire
In your soul for?”
And that really hit me hard

As they went to bed
And as the sun set

I put my headphones in
Start to spin
Wanted to leave this world behind
I turn Aretha up
Don’t give a fuck
If my neighbours hear me cry
When I’m dancing in my kitchen at night
When I’m dancing in my kitchen at night

Splinters left from the hardwood floor
Well I couldn’t love them more
I carry the scars wherever
I go Winters, washing above my head
Well I didn’t notice then
But they were the best of all the moments
And if I could go back then

I’d put my headphones in
Start to spin
Want to leave this world behind
Turn Aretha up
Don’t give a fuck
If my neighbours hear me cry
When I’m dancing in my kitchen at night
When I’m dancing in my kitchen at night
