The least realistic part was that his opponent in the armageddon final wasn’t a scrawny nerdy 10yo. Jokes aside one of the most powerful things chess teaches is to respect the young & not to take for granted that you’re wiser and smarter just because you’re older.
In general, helping build a chess club is a great way to serve and improve your community. It is work that will be richly rewarded when you see how many good things come from it.

I’m a gutless fish. Made a poor choice of 1st wife had two boys, then divorced. Knew before divorce (and kids) that very well could end this way.
So I told the boys ” even if I’m not in your day to day life, find a mentor”

It’s a good drama with some truth, but it REALLY glosses over the fact that you have to memorize multiple openings and combinations to be anywhere near competitive. The biggest balls in the world won’t win you ANYTHING without several years of study. Mr. Brown had seventeen years to work on it, it’s not just like “being real good” is gonna win you something. PATIENCE is golden in chess. And boring in movies.
