In this VladTV interview, Ramon “Mundo” Mendoza—also known as “Machine Gun Mundo”—reflects on his path from Boyle Heights altar boy to Mexican Mafia member after nearly 20 years in prison. Born in 1949 and raised in East Los Angeles, Mendoza discusses family violence, joining street life in the 1960s, early arrests by LAPD Hollenbeck, and entering California juvenile facilities. He recounts witnessing a sexual assault on his first day in juvenile hall, an experience he says shaped his understanding of prison rules, racial divisions, and survival. Mendoza also addresses the origins of the Mexican Mafia at DVI, comments on the film American Me, and explains references from his book Gang of Gangs. The conversation touches on LA County Jail, San Quentin, Folsom, Joe “Peg Leg” Morgan, Aryan Brotherhood figures, inmate prostitution, heroin, and changing prison codes around rape and gang culture.
