Digitalism share the story behind their mid-2000s electro-house anthem, ‘Zdarlight’.
Originally released in 2005, the track didn’t immediately impress labels or their friends, but after testing it out at a show in Belgium and seeing the crowd’s reaction, the German duo understood they had created something special. ‘Zdarlight’ was eventually re-released as a single via Kitsuné before featuring on their acclaimed debut album, ‘Idealism’, in 2007.
Here, Digitalism break down process behind the track, recalling how they made in a studio built inside an old World War II bunker. They also look back on trips to London with Soulwax and watching ‘Zdarlight’ grow from an unloved track to an undeniable dancefloor anthem.
In this series, DJ Mag explores the tales behind some of the world’s favourite dance tracks, told by the people that made them.
