So not really a radically different shape to what we see in the real world… but even amongst that group things are extremely top heavy.

12:32 huuuuh. it would be very interesting to see a game like this set in a world designed for wealth equality. see what that would do for optimizing the fun out of the game.
I was curious about the aircraft carrier/hand plow comment and so I did a little historical digging and some math. I figured out that, actually, multiple aircraft carriers were already built before the absolute majority of the human race had transitioned away from using hand plows to using more advanced agricultural alternatives. Lol.
I’d say aurora 4x is harder
I’d argue the most complex game is Star Citizen and it also has a wealth inequality problem.
This is one of the reasons why I love and hate these kinds of games. It’s very rewarding if you have been around for a long time, taking opportunities, merching, etc. But I couldn’t play Eve; I don’t feel like I can possibly accomplish anything meaningful without putting a lot of money into it. i feel like Eve would be a game I’d enjoy if I could somehow start playing it even just 10 years ago. v
And just like everything else, why does everyone expect to end up in the top 5%, let alone the top 0.1%? Why does everyone even care? Social media gave people the impression that everyone should be living this billion dollar lifestyle, but the reality is that you can have a damn good life just ratting, doing some trading, mining, whatever you wanna do. Join a Corp, do some mining or fleet stuff. Not everyone is going to be a billionaire, not everyone even has the mentality to be one, stop acting like your life won’t be good unless you get that. Just play the game.
