After the Psychosis: When a Violent Patient Seeks Freedom | NCR: Not Criminally Responsible | ENDEVR Documentary

My Son, My Daughter’s Killer – Can Parents Stop Loving a Child?: https://youtu.be/4r-Zk58CumE

This feature documentary about violence, mental illness, and the rights of victims tells the story of a troubled young man who stabbed a complete stranger six times in a crowded shopping mall during a psychotic episode.

Twelve years later, his victim, who miraculously survived, is terrified to learn that he’s out, living in the community under supervision. He’s applying for an absolute discharge, and if he succeeds, he’ll no longer be required to take the anti-psychotic drugs that control his mental illness. With unprecedented access to the patient, the victim, and the mental institution, the film looks at both sides of the debate and puts a human face on the complex ethical issues raised.

This documentary first aired 2013.

This was an absolutely brilliant documentary. It was so interesting to hear his thoughts and seeing the transformation. The first half of the story I would not have believed it possible that the parents and the daughter themselves found it in their hearts to forgive him even in person I found astonishing. The amount of strength that takes unbelievable. That actually had me crying.
I’m so glad that this wonderful man got the help and support that he needed. The doctors and nurses insights were also importance to hear. I hope it changes the opinion of some who judge those with mental health issues. Thank goodness there is a support system that can actually help them back to themselves. Thank you for your patience and guidance.
This was really one of the best documentaries I’ve seen in a while!

I worked on a forensic unit and seeing the things NCR people do is horrifying, but so are the things that “ordinary” people do. There are pastors that beat their spouses, teachers that abuse children, and healthcare staff that are high or drunk while working.
However I completely empathize with people who are mentally ill because it can happen to anyone.
And what an incredible gift to see how much people can change when they receive the care they need.
I think that in the case of NCR- they should not be released WITHOUT a CTO. We mass vaccinated people for an illness to prevent death- and unfortunately there are some people who simply cannot be given complete autonomy because they cannot be trusted not to commit harm to themselves or others.

Will uses someone saying something he don’t like as a excuse to get physical & call it self defense when self defense is like when you are cornered in & can’t run from the situation & have to fight back but if you can escape the situation, you can’t do that, you have to walk or run away!I know he has his illnesses but someone needs to tell him that & remind him of that so he knows when to fight back!Him not taking his meds when they don’t have another remedy, is definitely not helping! I heard before that cause those meds are powerful, that if they start & stop them, it makes their illnesses worse, that you can actually see differences in their brain activity when drs check! At least Sean tried to get helped & realized when he was close to a breaking point & what he needs to do for life!they failed cause if had they of made time & better yet, been consistent with him & others, many innocent lives would of been saved or not badly injured!

a trouble childhood, a trouble mother, who knows how many abuses he suffered at the hands of the family, bullied and isolated by everyone, laughed at…what a cocktail for a mental illness! He knew he needed help and was turn around by the psychic ward. It doesn’t excuse his behaviour but it explains it. Maybe he wanted to hurt his mother and the build up rage exploded. Plus the rejection that he got from women. He never got closure for what happened with him since he was young.A tragedy for both of them. Its not illness appearing from nowhere its a combination: childhood PTSD and schizo. What a powerful story of forgiveness.

Well I am SURE gLaD he is able to step on cigarettes as he is free to saunder down the public street. I meAn FK..It’s sure comforting knowing the system has our best interests at heart, when dealing with random thrill killers, to make sure they have the freedom to roam the hallways ,having access to other people and women on his floor. Okay he completed his rehab , Soo now transport him to county lock up to do his 25-life… BECAUSE IF I stAbbed some chick bout to get married!. I’d get fkn LIFE Fo sHO!

I work in a behavioral health home and I’m a firm believer that Psychiatric Wards need to make a full comeback!

These mf’s are born with their wires hard crossed for violence and idgaf if you manage to “get the right medication” they are never able to be safely in society and they spend so much time in that delusional and violent heads pace the things they do and say are always convoluted or repulsive even when they are on medications! Like I’m sorry but working directly with the mentally ill literally made me pro choice

Good documentary. I hope Sean achieves a peaceful life. Being alone in a calm and satisfying environment is not so bad. Will has quite a long way to travel.
