Pyramids Of Mars was THE very first Who story I ever saw. I was heavily into Egyptology at the time and seeing that dark lord of death shaped a young metalhead’s mind. As an aside, the death metal band Nile and I had an interesting friendship. At a show in Spartanburg, South Carolina, I handed Karl Sanders, vocalist, a copy of a VHS tape with this very episode on it. I told him it might help him out lyric wise; I had always wanted to see a metal song written about Sutekh…
Nile used traditional Egyptian music and instruments alongside their brutal brand of death metal. At that very same show I handed Necrobutcher from Mayhem a VHS copy of their Atlanta show I had filmed for them.
Caves of Androzani definitely deserves a mention
I love Caves of Androzani, but I don’t know if a regeneration story is great to start out with

If they do carry on Doctor Who , when ever they decide to get it back on tv, or if the BBC is still around in the coming years, they need to bring back Fenric 🙂 from the curse of fenric
It’s been decades with streaming and DVD box sets before that … but other than the oldest Classic fans, they all got into it “from the middle”, just seeing an episode here and there. Most like me will remember the point at which we decided to “not miss an episode”.
I have to recommend “The New Beginnings” boxset: Traken, Logopolis, Castrovalva. It’s basically the reintroduction of the Master. You could follow that with the rest of the episodes Anthony Ainley is in, and circle back to the eras you like more.
Black and white episodes are a different pace … I don’t like them being lumped in with the rest of the Classic era. 1970s and 80s maybe? But McCoy again feels “fresh”, and is another soft reboot, just as much as 12th-13th Doctor.
11:30 watching on a laptop is a bit rubbish though … the Classic era needs to be seen in 50fps, so use a TV that uses motion smoothing. Or just get the DVD.
11:30 Loose Cannon has an internet archive account to which it has uploaded all of its reconstructions. If there’s an episode missing from whatever you’re watching, its probably there.
