Girl, u went to Cross Creek Manor? I went to A.I.R. (Academy @ Ivy Ridge ) in Ogdensburg NY ran by WWASP, Utah based- the netflix documentary u mentioned ,I went there with those girls. Alexa was one of my good friends. I feel ur pain. Taken at 5am as well by a stranheam and woman for a 7 hr car ride they don’t tell u how long u will be in the car cuffed. Same rules, 80% of ur food. I got to level 2 lol. Was in worksheets and R&R discipline for 4 weeks straight.
Edit: I understand ur staying u didn’t do anything wrong that bad. U were 12. I was 16. And I didn’t either except went to a party and drank a little w friends . No drugs. Etc. but I had gone to a party and had one . But that’s as bc my mom left me alone in her house while she lived at her bfs. So, duh, I’m 16, of course will hv a party. But girls and boys who went there, were on drugs etc. or arrest records. And that was worse bc there was no detox program.. I ALWAYS said it was worse than jail! U at least hv contact w friends and fam if they contact u or visit u. We didn’t couldn’t look out windows or talk bc considered run plans.. AIR for shut down too I think 2006. I had nightmares for a yr after leaving. My dad got me out after 6 months and my m took him to court and it cost my dad $30k to get the judge to side w him bc my mom needed court order too! He won bc she showed her true color. S she told the judge that if they sides w my dad she was dodging over ALL custody of me and wanted nothing to do w me. The judge was like, ur giving ur rights up if I do?? And that day the judge sided w my dad ❤
Near the end of this conversation, they brought up another podcaster named Ian who she did an interview with, which caused me to check out that format as well. Both are definitely it’s own thing and both are great…. I prefer Matt Cox’s format where the guest tells their story and Cox has various reactions to what is being said throughout. His own emotion/thoughts/stories that correlate with the guest. … I think it’s not only a good thing to give the guest validations and entering in ones own emotions to what they are saying, but much of society has been programmed when it comes to the system and are naive to these things, so for example when Mellisa is talking about corrupt things the guards would do, it’s good for Cox to bring up his experiences with various guards. Ian’s format feels kind of off because as a listener you’re expecting the host to have emotional reactions/opinions to the things being said, and ian remains an objective observer, but through editing or preparation he has really good questions that correlate to what is being said caulked and ready to go without hesitation. It’s fair to say that we as viewers inherently expect their to be emotional responses to what is being said, (unless it’s an interrogation or something), so it’s constantly not giving me something that I’m expecting their to be throughout. Cox has a lot of direct/indirect experience to what is being said and we want him to add that into the conversation… even if a guest accuses Cox of being self aggrandizing at times, it’s simultaneously an emotional response/validation to what the guest is talking about. Hopefully has doesn’t change it… it’s weird if there’s no responses to these gargantuan emotional journeys.
