Ryan Clark’s firing from ESPN was reportedly influenced, in part, by concerns over his on-air conduct, including a tense exchange with colleague Peter Schrager. The move also came amid a broader round of ESPN layoffs.
During an episode of Get Up last September, after Schrager defended #Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb’s performance in a season-opening loss, Clark responded:
Ryan Clark: “That’s the non-player in you.”
Schrager immediately pushed back:
Peter Schrager: “Don’t belittle me like that. I can come in, hear three former players saying one thing, and still offer an alternative perspective.”
Clark then replied:
Ryan Clark: “What I need you to do is not get mad and let me finish for once.”
Later that day, Clark apologized on X, writing:
“Today, I had an interaction with my colleague (Schrager) both on and off the air that I regret.”
According to reports, the incident was one of several factors that reportedly contributed to ESPN’s decision, alongside the company’s broader layoffs.

How they gonna get mad at Ryan Clark for being right
Anyone who likes Ryan Clark is just not right in the head
It legit had nothing to do with this. He was on the list way before the argument. The list leaked people in the press though, and ESPN scrambled, not wanting another network to break the news before they could inform him – and him finding out that way. That’s why the manager who he’s friends with told him in the middle of the show. He wanted Clarke to hear it from him. It was a respect thing.
The firing didn’t even come from ESPN. It came from the parent company- Disney who is in a round of layoffs.
You can see Ryan thinking it thru. He knew it would be an issue and trying to mitigate it.
Athletes are delusional to believe that someone who may have followed a sport for 30yrs don’t know about the sport.
