Jessica Stein, the mother of defendant Thomas Stein, took the stand and described her actions on the day of the shooting. She confirmed that she rented an SUV earlier that day for a trip to the beach. Prosecutors allege that same vehicle was later used by her son in the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Kayla Rincon-Miller. Thomas Stein is charged with murder and attempted robbery in connection with her death.

I’m a mother of a 25 year old. From day one to 21. I was a single parent. On one hand, my job is always, acting like a mother, depended by the age of the child. What means, being aware of my responsibility and being still in touch and involved what my kid at this young age (16) is doing.
Because of my experience as a single mother with “only” one child, I know, what I’m talking about. Being a single parent is not like a walk in the park.
Not every single parent has the same possibility, to recognize when it’s time to call for help, taking care of the children.
This event is so incredible. The defendant was clearly aware at the age of 16 that he’s committing a crime.

I would never allow my 16 year old to drive him and his friends around in a rental car smoking weed, blasting music… nothing ever good could come from that 😅 also she returned the car smelling like weed? SMH
I’m convinced this lady bought the firearm for her son because he said he had “taken” it several times! And she never noticed? She knew her boy had previous police contact and for that alone he would be supervised 24/7!! But the people who he hung around, I’m sure she had a conversation or some sort with this “Buster” kid and could eaisly conclude that he would not have the best interest of her son as most parents can immediately spot!
Stop failing your children trying to be the cool mom, allowing them to smoke weed in your home as a minor? Allowing your 16 year old to go shoot guns at the range for fun? I don’t see how a parent who cares about their child’s future would allow that.
If she had taken her son to turn himself in right after they met with “Busters” family, he would be in a better position.
Disgusting person of a mother lock her up with that brat of a son no proper parenting scum the both of them. That poor girl rip. Some parent she is wot was she doing while he was out robbing and shooting innocent people i hope they both rot you scum
She said she was a surrogate mother (8 children) but my understanding of that title is that she has a baby on behalf of a woman and then hands it over, but that was not what it sounded like. Was she perhaps a foster mother? It is worrying that she does not really know how those 8 children came into her life! She can sound all sad but she really is a terrible mother, drugs in the home (with younger children) and a gun!
