Angry fans attending Lionel Messi’s tour of India ripped up seats and threw items towards the pitch after his appearance at Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium.
Thousands of supporters had paid up to 12,000 rupees (£100; $133) to catch a glimpse of the football star, but were left disappointed when he emerged to walk around the pitch, and was obscured by a large group of officials and celebrities.
When the Argentina and Inter Miami forward was whisked away early by security after around 20 minutes, elements of the crowd turned hostile.

In my honest opinion, I would rather say that ”Calcuttans” or Bengalis” have become that violent and foolish to accept and secure such payments for this visit, rather than other Indians. Just revisit the tours in Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad, there is nothing wrong with the management, routine and behaviours of spectators. Nevertheless, this India tour still ended up with a success rate of 75%, which is a win-win situation for the country’s economy…
However, me as a Bengali living in Europe, where football is played and followed rigorously, I would consider as a massive loss in Bengal Football Administration and popularity. This eventually turns out to be a very sad day in India, since we (Bengalis, Indians and Europeans) all know that KOLKATA is the MECCA of Indian football. Kolkata is the main city for this sport, mismanagement can never be tolerated!!!
