Professional drummer and educator Larnell Lewis explains drumming in 13 levels of difficulty, from easy to complex. The Snarky Puppy percussionist explains how drum techniques build upon each other as the easiest levels incorporate the hi-hat, bass and snare drums, and more difficult levels include polyrhythms, the floor tom, ride cymbals, syncopation and much more.

i now get the terminology my drummer friends rattle off and how they got so good. Although you summed it up for a video, I can see years worth of dedicated practice and love for the instrument. Thank you.
i just saw the best drums video in my life
ive been drumming for three or four years almost completely self taught and this video gave me a totally different perspective. like i knew what i was doing but now i actually know WHAT it is that ive been doing
2 years later and I’m in awe!
is this the guy singing with random people with a guitar?
Not quite my tempo
Larnell Legend Lewis, what a lovely bloke, and an incredible drummer !
Im 60yrs old. Do you think it’s possible to play as good as you now or it’s to late for me.
14:29 i see dave grohl
Right😭
What a fantastic drummer and teacher
Anybody know what ride he is using in this video?
Just show sheet music. That grid thing is no good
I’d actually move level 8 higher than some of the other levels following it. 2/3 and 4/3 are pretty easy to learn, but getting into odd time signatures like 5/4 and 7/4 are much harder than drum fills imo
Why are we putting condensers on toms…??
🌟 🌟
Can you imagine I am just at level 4, based on levels being shared here. I have a long way to go but thanks @larnellewis for your help. I’ve been playing for 20+ years. Help😢😢😢
as 40 yrs inexperienced, this is mind blown
Great video. This is something you should watch every day, or several times per day, for a week or two, maybe even a month. The nuances alone make this worth the lessons it shares. Instead pf here is a lick, or fill, it gives the overall picture. Thanks for the multiple insights into not only drumming but music.
Amen!
Wow 🎩👏👏👏
Wow! Elevation.
