Just saw this after Sinner won in straight… so I came to be amused. Is it an unwritten rule that American commentators vastly overrate American players the way British commentators vastly overrate Jack Draper? Firstly, it’s not out of the realm of reality that Sinner could’ve won the match against Dimi in 5. Sinner did win his very first slam against Meddy doing just that. Secondly, is Gill Gross the only commentator who uses actual statistics when talking about a player’s attributes, like Shelton’s serve. I mean, it’s obviously elite, but is it Isner level? Is it GMP level? Nope. Thirdly, even Ivanisevic said as much – there are levels – there’s tier 1 right now – Sinner & Alcaraz, then tier 2 Djokovic, then the rest. There’s no tier 3, it’s just a fluctuating list of whoever hits a good patch and goes on a run. C’mon Jim, you know better! 🤣
