  1. Is the intended purpose to instruct, or entertain?

When learning a particular deck or combo, i’ll look up a vid focused on it, and usually return to the more in-depth channels for future ideas.

There’s so many cards, none of us have a solid grasp on everything.. So it does help to get multiple perspectives, especially for the same deck.

As far as content creation niches go, i haven’t seen too many starter’s guides to yugioh. Short-form specific vids could work, as well as in-depth dives into particular areas of the game (like mechanics, archetypes, ratio-theory, all that)

It’d be a ton of work to talk about, and i’m not sure how many views would come from it, but there’s always people looking to understand this mess of a game..

    1. It’s not just views tbh i have some friends that check out my videos from time to time they can’t understand a single word i’m saying pretty much. But on the other hand some regular viewers i have i know they enjoy some of the stuff i put out. Seems hard to balance the two…

For just if you’re new to yugioh explaining necessary information unironically might take about half an hour(although i doubt you can really remember everything maybe if you work in some jokes/comedy or something memorable to make it stick idk)…

Tbh with yugioh idk if you can do both like instruct and entertain.

What i do want to make for sure are videos that are fairly watchable for people that don’t play yugioh… but there is so much card text you gotta get through idk if thats doable.

I did a video where i try to explain the games mechanics in 20 mins:

iirc i missed some things thinking of trying to make a video to learn yugioh for like the 3rd or 4th time but idk if it’s doable tbh.

It really is a monumental task, both to learn and teach the game. True yugiboomer here, and still learning what is technically basic info after 20+ years..

Just the number of ways a monster can be summoned, and what effects interact with what type of summon, negating a summon vs destroying a monster, so so much, and that’s all before strategy really comes into play.

      It really is wild..

    3. @@dudeguy8686 speaking of summons if you have solemn judgement and i use a monster effect to summon another monster let’s say from hand you can’t negate that summon with solemn did ya know that?

I believe the rationale here is that you can’t respond to my monster effect here with solemn and when the chain resolves the monster is already special summoned so you essentially miss timing on solemn judgment.

Luckily though this will not be super relevant a lot of the time.

Also sometimes solemn judgment can trigger effects when it destroys sometimes it doesn’t… It’s case by case. Hard to explain this to a new player off rip…

    4. @@phienex
I certainly didn’t know that xD

When Judgement reads as though it can negate any summon, no problem..

Then, if the monster is lucky enough to stick around, there’s trigger effects, activatable effects, quick effects, passive effects, floating effects..

Then there’s every single other detail of the card that might be relevant, from its name to level to statline. Is it a tuner? A light fiend?

If by some miracle, the monster is still on the field by combat, there’s books that could be written on the damage step alone, and how to resolve all the weird interactions there..

It’s like each deck is half a jigsaw puzzle, with each piece (or card) only sometimes available, while changing how they fit based on what other pieces are available at the time and what stage of the game it’s played, and whoever can fit together a complete picture first wins.

And to top it off, all of the ever-changing rules of the game are translated and localized into a poor grammatical formst. It’s tough just to read some of these cards..

  2. Well anyone who is checking out a Yugioh video will generally have some interest in the game or learning how to play it. If you want to make a video watchable for non yugioh players, you’d have to make new player guides, the best deck for new players, playing “insert deck here” for beginners etc etc.

That said, My most watched Master Duel vids are about New players learning yugioh, interesting tech, beating the meta, budget decks to try, and people playing decks I like.

  3. One avenue i think is to scenarise the duels, maybe making parralels with everyday life situations. Maybe also emphasise on boss monsters , maybe taking advantage of the fact that at least their effects are widely undersrtandable. Just brainstaorming here. The idea of all of this is to steer away from the educational side and more towards the anime side. Maybe try to tell a story (using whats going on on the field) that has nothing to do with whats happening on the technical side. Now how to make them learn anything if you got their attention? i dont really know. Maybe restart the same duel while being technical and in depth . you can then cover every thing as simple as defense position/attack position monsters to the really deep ruling stuff.

    1. What brought me to ygo was the nostalgia of the anime. started with DL for a long time which was way easier than tcg or md then went to md.

  4. I mean my answer would be good commentry and video premise.

I’ve been a sucker for MBT’s masochist banlist tournaments since before I played masterduel, the combos just look hype.
Even before that I watched history of yugioh on cimooos channel. I just like watching nerds who master their craft even if I don’t play the game.
