Why AI Chess Bots Are Virtually Unbeatable (ft. GothamChess) | WIRED

“I got checkmated in 34 moves.” Levy Rozman a.k.a. GothamChess plays chess against Stockfish 16, the strongest chess computer in the world, and analyzes the way it thinks in order to apply it to his own gameplay. With help from computer chess software engineer Gary Linscott, these chess pros identify why Stockfish is virtually unbeatable by a human, from opening move to endgame.

    1. How high Elo can you beat if you had to pre move each of your moves? (provided that the opponent doesn’t know about this)

  1. This is the problem with playing online, the second your opponent ends up in a losing position they start playing stockfish best moves and win the game taking advantage of even slight inaccuracies. Online chess is simply no fun anymore. i have moved to 99% OTB only chess now with the occasional online game just to quickly practice lines in blitz

  2. Humans put too much brainpower into secreting fluids tbh. AI think clearer because of how much less… Sticky they get.

  3. Yes, I know the humiliation. Against the high-rated bots, you can occasionally manage not to lose if you pound your head on a wall, long enough.

Against the highest-rated bots, never, ever.

  4. Levy should’ve asked bro if stockfish puts a value to the pieces or if it just calculates which pieces will help it win.
Does calculate agree with the human evaluations of the pieces?

  5. Very interesting. What i would like to see…. is the computing power of Stockfish _adapted_ to be able to calculate out rogue mutations of cells in the human body so that their trajectory can be monitored and effectively dealt with. Could this be a possibility in the future? 🤔
