Keir Starmer has said that he is going to have to make tough decisions and “make them early” in his first news conference as UK prime minister.
He said that prisons are an obvious example of an issue that needs to be addressed, “where other parts of the system are broken”.
On Saturday he chaired a cabinet meeting for the first time in Downing Street in which he said a “huge amount of work” was under way.
