When it comes to backing up a trailer you are pointing the trailer in the direction it wants to go and then following it as such and you’re going to base your turning off of the rear tires of your truck instead of the front tires as your rear tires have to be what clears when you’re going around objects
First direction I teach is turn the damn radio off and open the windows… You would not believe how many people don’t understand that you want to be able to listen to what the trailer is doing not just see…
Use the steering wheel what it was made for. Sometimes you don’t have a choice and have to turn sharp. And if you have a big rear window with good visibility, don’t just rely on mirrors, move your head around. If you have a good spotter (one that doesn’t wait til the last second and panics like this guy) you can let them feed you info on stuff like: how close you are to hitting the trailer, let your wheels come within centimeters of obstacles, show you the direction they want the trailer to point, etc. If you’re alone you should still be using the full range of the steering wheel, and you should be going stopping going stopping to assess your position the entire time if you’re between obstacles. If you’re pulling a trailer as a job, don’t be afraid to turn too much and then go forward to straighten out. You’ve got work to do, not people to impress. Also take the plug out when you reverse. It gives you a few more degrees thar you can turn to whichever side the plug is on, and if you hit the trailer going as slow as you should be going when you’re intentionally jack knifing, you won’t damage anything
No wonder shits a ford
