Amazing Grace and A United Kingdom should have been on this list.
Hey america, are you aware there is a world outside of you? Your movies are crap. I would rather watch paint dry than your daily regurgitated stories.
Lorenzo’s Oil. When a child is diagnosed with a terrible disease that will take his life way too early, his mother and father take medical matters into their own hands and eventually create a special treatment for their son with the help of more qualified professionals.
Yes, it’s true that the treatment ultimately failed and the boy in question, Lorenzo Odone, died at 30. But it’s the story of the perseverance and persistence of the parents that is so inspiring to watch.
And the movie technically has a happy ending as it ends with Lorenzo still a child and was made several years before he died, so the parting message of him still thriving in his 20s was beautiful to read.
Beautiful but brutal movie. Especially if you’re a parent. But worth the watch.
