I’m from Hamilton, ON in Canada. We used to be a massive hub for the production of steel, and now we’ve become hollowed out. I’m pretty sure that we supplied a large amount of steel to Detroit car industry. The story of Detroit is incredibly inspiring, and I’d like to see it as one that’s the model of the future for cities in North America, hollowed out by the offshoring of industry.
All the forclosed homes/abandoned in detroit.. thank god some good samaritan is gonna make apartments out of the packard plant. They certainly wont gouge people, no developer ever does.
How is it not racist to say: “where the black folks at?!” But if a white person said that there’d be a riot?
I watched this because I was curious after watching youtube shorts by RundownBuildings channel that often displays the abandoned houses from this city. I was wondering of the history and the cause of it. Thank you Vice for this documentary. I love the colouring, the ambiance, the people, the songs and the melancholic after-taste while watching this. What a great work.
