John Barnes is about to go off to war in the 1940s. Before he leaves, he acquires an old book filled with intriguing handwritten notes. He begins a correspondence with its previous owner — and it promises to be more than just an exchange of letters.
Based on the popular short story “”The People with the Roses”” by Max Lucado, the Book and the Rose is a timeless romantic story about two people brought together by the workings of fate.

The older woman was prettier and livelier
Of course, the woman can’t be less than gorgeous. Would have been a greater story if the woman had been more ordinary looking and the soldier as well. Too bad.
Seriously–John Barnes is a hero for risking talking to a fat woman??? But wait — thank god it’s a ploy — If he is willing to swallow his initial disappointment and ask her to dinner then lo and behold he gets the girl his dreams anyway. Sickening. I loved it until that moment but for me that undoes the whole story.
